Kathleen Virginia Brown Allen, 91, returned to our Heavenly Father after a brave battle with cancer on Jan. 19, 2012, at her home surrounded by her loving family, at Satsuma.
She was born Feb. 14, 1920, in Camden County, Ga., to Matthew A. Brown and Matilda Jane Robinson, the fourth of six children. She had resided in Jacksonville since 1945, spending the past eight years in Satsuma. Because of her loving kindness, many others refer to her as mother and grandma. She leaves behind many special friends that she loved dearly. She has been a faithful lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Saints, where she served in numerous positions.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Sinclair Allen, parents and brothers, Nephi Jensen, Melvin Anthony, James Clayton, Ezekiel Elmo, Matthew Ervin Brown.Kathleen is survived by her children; Barbara Jane Cartin (G. McKinney II) of Welaka, Henry Lamar Allen (Sharon) of Welaka, Rodney Brown Allen (Brenda Jo) of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Tanis Lynn Barrus (Ronnie Neil) of Edmond, Okla.; 19 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, for a total of 83 descendents.
The service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m., at the Arlington Ward Chapel, 7665 Ft. Caroline Road., Jacksonville. The viewing will be held an hour and a half prior to the services. The interment will be at Zions Cemetery in Kingsland, Ga.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Haven Hospice of Palatka, FL.
The funeral arrangements are through Arlington Park Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
Jordan Matthews
Louis Jordan Matthews Jr., 69, of Palatka, passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012 at the Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center surrounded by his family.
Born April 21, 1942, in Moultrie, Ga., Jordan moved to Palatka at the age of 2, and spent the rest of his life in the community he loved so much. He was a 1960 graduate of Palatka High School and a 1965 graduate from Atlantic Christian College in Rocky Mount, N.C. He served his country in the Florida National Guard from 1965 until 1975. Jordan worked in the timber business starting in 1966 with Hudson Pulp & Paper until his retirement in 2000 from International Paper. In his retirement, Jordan worked part-time with his good friend, Jack Cremer, at Cremer Wood Procurement Inc. He was a registered forester and member of the Florida Forestry Association.
Jordan was very active in both community and the corporate world, serving on several committees over the years. He was a past member of the River City Kiwanis Club of Palatka, helped many Boy Scouts in Putnam County grow to be strong young men and helped found the Palatka Golf Course Pool Organization. He was currently serving on the Putnam Soil and Water Conservation Committee, the Conlee-Snyder Mural Committee and the Greenbelt Advisory Board. Jordan spearheaded the annual Champion International North Florida FFA Forestry Field Day and received several awards and recognitions for his service to the forestry community. Jordan grew up at the First Presbyterian Church of Palatka and was currently a member of Christ Independent Methodist Church, where he served on the board of stewards.
While growing up, Jordan loved spending his summers on the family property in the small community of Chilmark on the island of Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts. He was able to share this wonderful experience with his children as they grew up as well. He was an avid outdoorsman who fished and hunted his whole life anywhere he could. He enjoyed spending time in his yard and was a master craftsman. He loved history, and took his family on many vacations, making out of the way stops at historical attractions and museums to enjoy our wonderful country and help educate his children on his love of his country. A friend to all, and an enemy to none, Jordan truly was a Renaissance man and patriot in every sense of the word.
He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Cynthia Matthews, brother Johnny Matthews, and his beloved son David Matthews.
Jordan is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Susan Boaz Matthews; son Matt Matthews and wife Carolyn, of Ocala; son Charlie Matthews and wife Holli, of Palatka; four granddaughters he loved dearly, Alex Lucas of Ocala.; Mandy Lucas and fianc Thomas Roomy of Cambridge, Mass.; and Rylee and Baylee Matthews of Palatka. Jordan is also survived his sister, Cindy Boudreau and husband Scott of Boston, Mass.; great-aunts, Mildred Morris of Atlanta, Ga.; Jean Heirs of Alexandria, Va.; sister-in-law, Nancy Bivings and husband Sonny (Gene) of Atlanta, Ga.; brother-in-law, Ted Boaz of Macon, Ga., along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jordan loved friends and food, so per his wishes, there will be a short celebration service on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. at Christ Independent Methodist Church with Pastors Michael Hudson and Amos Price officiating. The Florida National Guard will conduct military honors. A fellowship time immediately after the service will follow to reminisce on the great times we had with Jordan and to catch up with old friends.
His family and friends mourn the loss of his humorous, kind, and compassionate soul, but his memory will live on in their hearts forever. The family would like to extend many thanks to the wonderful staff at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center.

Bunky Roberts
William Walter "Bunky" Roberts, 75, of Palatka, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012 at Putnam Community Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 15, 1936 in Okeechobee, son of Mary Williams Roberts and Walter Roberts. The family moved back to Palatka in 1937 shortly before the death of his father. He attended Palatka public schools from elementary through high school. He was a 1955 graduate of Palatka High School and his senior year he was president of the Student Council and president of the Senior Class. He was named All Conference, All State, All Southern and All American in football. He attended the University of Georgia on a football scholarship and was member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He served two years in the United States Army. In 1959, he returned to Palatka and married Sandra Wolfenden and was employed by his adopted father, Clyde M. Rozier at Rozier's Oil Co. Mr. Roberts purchased the company in 1972, which he owned and operated for 34 years. Bunky was a past member of the Florida Private Industrial Council, the Seventh Judicial Florida Bar Grievance Committee, past officer and director of the Palatka Skeet Club and a past trustee of Briarwood School. He served on the board of directors for the Barnett Bank of Putnam County and the Barnett Banks of the St. Johns. He was a deacon and elder of First Presbyterian Church of Palatka, serving as treasurer for many years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 34 F&AM, York Rite, Morocco Temple, Putnam County Shrine Club, Palatka Elks Club, and the Florida Petroleum Marketers Association. He served as chairman of the city of Palatka Planning Board for many years. He was a benefactor of the Children's Home Society of Florida and received awards of appreciation in 1980 and 1988. He also served as a director in the North Coastal Board of Directors of the Children's Home Society. Bunky served as president and as a director of the Palatka Rotary Club and was also a member and director of the Rotary Club of Palatka Sunrise. He was a member and past president (1985) of the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce, served on the Chamber Board of Directors as treasurer, vice president for economic development, co-chairman for Forward Putnam in 1987, president of the Putnam Society, and he served on the Committee of 100, the Organizational Structure Task Force and the Finance Committee. He received the Jaycee "Good Citizenship Award" in 1986, the Republican Executive Committee "Putnam County Citizen of the Year Award" in 1988, the Florida Industrial Development Award in 1989, and the Chamber of Commerce "Bob Hudson Small Business Person of the Year Award" in 2003. He was chairman of the Hospice of the Lakes (now Haven Hospice) steering committee for the Capital Campaign (2002-2004), was on the St.
Johns River Community College Board of Trustees, serving as chairman from 2001-2011 and was recently named chairman emeritus of the now St. Johns River State College. He served for many years as president of the Barefoot Trace Condominium Association at Crescent Beach and was a supporter of the Humane Society.He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Roberts, Mary Williams Roberts Rozier and Clyde M. Rozier and by a sister, Mary Elizabeth Roberts Garcia.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sandra Wolfenden Roberts of Palatka; children, Tance Elizabeth Roberts and husband, Michael of Crescent Beach and John M. Roberts and wife, Verna of East Palatka; grandchildren, Taylor Elizabeth Roberts, Michael Zack Roberts Jr., and Paityn Julian Roberts; brother-in-law, Guillermo Garcia; niece, Mary Leonor Garcia; nephew, Bill C. Garcia; brother-in-law, Dr. John W. Wolfenden and wife, Krystyna; nephews, Lawrence Wolfenden and wife, Paige, and Robert Wolfenden and wife, Melanie and nieces, Kathryn Alton and husband, John and Gayle Sochor and husband, Lonnie.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 22 at the First Presbyterian Church in Palatka with Pastor Bob Scott officiating. The U.S. Army will conduct military honors. A reception will be held at the Palatka Golf Club, 1715 Moseley Ave., immediately following the funeral. Private burial will follow at a later date in West View Cemetery.

Jennifer Smith
A memorial service will be held to honor dearly departed friend and co-worker Jennifer Smith. Jennifer lived in Bostwick and recently moved to Virginia where she passed away Jan. 2, 2012. Friends and family are invited to join to honor her memory on Jan. 22 from 1-3 p.m. at the Palatka Moose Lodge 184 at 3875 Reid St., Palatka.
Jennifer is survived by her mother, Betty Farmer, Palatka; a daughter, Kristen Michelle Gardner, Palatka; a son, Robert Alexander Weaver, Coeburn, Va.; a granddaughter, Briannah Marie Gardner, Palatka; a brother, Michael Roberts, Palatka; a sister, Rachel Etta Thomas, Palatka; a stepbrother, William Farmer, Arkansas; Tommy Farmer, Jonesborough, Tenn.; a stepsister, Kathy Kelly, Pound, Va.; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Albert A. Brooke, 57, of Interlachen, passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2011 at Shands UF in Gainesville.

Rosa Edwards
Rosa Edwards, 91, of Palatka, passed Friday, Jan. 20, 2012 at Palatka Health Care following an extended illness.
