Digimon Battle Game Review - MMO Hut

Overview

Digimon Battle Overview

Finally, a MMORPG based on the Digimon Franchise! WeMade Entertainment, the same developer behind such titles as Mir 2, The Legend of Mir 3, and Avalon Heroes have published the game here in North America. Digimon Battle has a turn based combat system and gives players to ability to catch Digimon and use them in battle against evil Digimon. The game is aimed at children and has a classic point-and-click control scheme where the mouse controls movement and combat. Keyboard shortcuts are also used to speed up gameplay.

Tamers:

Takato Matsuki - Likes to draw Digimon and play card games with friends. Not proficient in handling cards, but has an outstanding ability to interact with partner digimon.

Henry Wong - Highly skilled with computers and using cards. He became a tamer to fight against evil monsters.

Rika Nonaka - Very intelligent and highly skilled with cards. She is a bit cold hearted.

Jeri Katou - A new tamer, she tends to be sloppy but has exceptional skill at handling Digimon.

Starting Digimon:

Gigimon - Armed with sharp teeth, Gigimon is capable of taking on much larger Digimon. Its skill is Hot Bite.

Viximon - An elusive Digimon that only moves under moonlight. Its skill is Killer Boulder which transforms Viximon into a boulder and emits a poisonous gas.

Gummymon - A genetically unstable Digimon armed with a solid horn. Its skill is Double Bubble which shoots out bubbles.

Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AF-D Review

In the earlier days of digital, the 50mm AF-D f/1.4 was something of a luxury lens in the Nikon world. Just as an example, see how many of DPReview's in-house shot's futured this lens mounted on a Nikon body. Many found the cheaper f/1.8 lens a revelation for sharpness at a very thrifty price, but in the days before nano-coating and all the exotic lenses that came after, the f/1.4 commanded a very steep price increase for an extra 2/3EV of exposure.
We now have other choices in terms of the newer G-version and an offering from Sigma. So is there still a place for the once top of the heap lens? Read on.

Compared to the D-type, neither of the newer f/1.4's come cheap, and make the f/1.8 look even more thrifty than before. By the time you get to f/5.6, there is virtually no difference between the three Nikons, but the Sigma falls behind.

The G-type retails in the $500 range but has better across the frame sharpness at open apertures. However, the raison d'tre of the G lens has always been a mystery to me. 50mm on a DX camera replicates the classic portrait focal length, but all of the Nikon 50mm's merely have so-so bokeh. For better out of focus rendition, you're much better of with one of the 85mm lenses instead. As a walk around lens, 50mm is too long for DX, which nullifies the use of wide open apertures. As a "body cap" on a full frame camera like a D700, a 50mm is perfect... but if you don't shoot wider than f2.8, then there wouldn't be that much difference to the cheaper AF-D version.

Hey girl
I've been with you for so many years
And we've had our laughs and we've cried some tears
Now something tells me you're not the same
Maybe it's me that's changed

What Can We Do To Save Pandas From Extinction?

what can we do to save pandas from extinction?

On the necessity of pandas « The view from Helicon

A friend asked for my thoughts on this article a while back (while my internet access was fairly limited). Here they are!

The idea of "conservation triage"—choosing which endangered species to protect/rehabilitate based on both their risk of extinction and our ability to save them—has been kicking around for a while. But I seem to have heard about it more lately, and specifically in the context of pandas.* Pandas are notoriously difficult to breed in captivity and inhabit a very narrow, and increasingly rare, habitat type. There's a good bet that even without human-induced habitat destruction, they'd have gone extinct due to demographic stochasticity (their populations were never large and they reproduce slowly, so by chance they could easily have experienced a population crash) or habitat loss due to natural climate changes. In fact, perhaps human intervention has already prolonged their tenure on this planet. Are we, by continuing to invest money and zoo space in panda conservation efforts, wasting our time on a doomed species, and worse, redirecting funds from species that actually could be saved from extinction? Are some species not worth saving?
